Why You Need Adventure!
Ginger Stache

I believe that we all need a little adventure in our lives. Something out of the ordinary to break the monotony. An opportunity to stretch outside of our comfortable walls and to learn something astounding. A moment of beauty to set our sights clearly on the Creator. Life is meant to be a grand adventure, and if you wouldn’t call yours that, it’s never too late to begin!

But why bother? You can certainly survive without adventure—keep your head down and live in your comfort zone, doing only what you must to maintain the day-to-day. Well, perhaps a better question is this – what do you want from your life?

Is maintaining adequate? Is it possible you’ve grown complacent with “good enough” when God wants to show you “extraordinary”? You see, our adventures become the memories we cherish and the stories we share. They inspire us, teach us, motivate us, and open the door to wonder. You need and deserve moments of the awe-struck wonder. It isn’t extravagant or too much to ask – it is actually what God has designed for you all along!

You need adventure to increase your joy. You need it to keep you from burnout. You need adventure in your life in order to share it with your children. And you need it to draw you closer to God.

Through the years, I’ve discovered we are at our best when we live with an attitude that life should be a great adventure—an outlook that sets the stage by believing every moment has the potential to bring something amazing, a sight to behold, or a lesson to be learned. When we make room in our lives for adventure, we open the door to greater wonder, bigger joy, and space for God to move in ways we may have never experienced otherwise.

I believe you can reach beyond what is expected of you, and what you may be expecting of yourself. You can live a big life. And I firmly believe God wants that for you as well.

Because life should surprise and wow us on a regular basis and be full of awe and wonder!

But hear this – that doesn’t mean that everyone needs the same adventures. Our adventures will be different…very different, but we all need them, of one sort or another. While one might need an exhilarating rush, another might need an adventure of solitude – a little time to themselves. The key is, and this is without exception, we need to break out of the expected. To discover a moment of beauty, a change of pace, or an opportunity to truly connect with another person.

There is plenty of adventure to be found; the problem is our days are so full of routine, monotony, and fear, that it is easier to stay on that treadmill of boredom than it is to step off into the unknown and discover something wonderful.

In the Bible, Jesus promises in John 10:10 that He came so that we could love the life that God gives us. He says that He came so that we could have a big life, abundant with wondrous moments and to be close to Him. Yet, He gives us choices. We can take the easy way, moving from day to day, following a prescribed schedule of tedium, or we can perhaps stretch further—push just a little, get out there, and see the possibilities God has in store for us!

Is anything I am saying connecting with you? Do you feel as if you are missing some of the best parts of life, including adventures of your own because you are stuck in a cycle of robotically moving from one responsibility to the next? Is fear keeping you from the adventures that could bring you the joy you’ve always desired?

In Jeremiah 33:3, God told Jeremiah, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Now that sounds like a great adventure to me! Hidden treasure! God wants to amaze and surprise you. You should be energized and motivated. You don’t have to settle for bored, disappointed, and discouraged. You want to be happy, and believe it or not, God wants that for you too. He wants to share His wonder with you.

God is uncontainable. Stop trying to fit Him into your tiny box. Instead, you can be a part of His big world. Open your doors to living big adventures with Him. He says you are worth it, so reach for the extraordinary. God offers everything you need to build a life you love. To fight isolation, sadness, and loneliness. To stretch to reach your potential.

You don’t have to do anything too crazy, but I am asking you to risk a little more of the unknown in order to step into your remarkable experiences. I want you to be in awe of God’s goodness, His majesty and creativity, His unprecedented love for you each and every day. And when you are, He will bless you with a heart that desires more of Him, more of His astounding adventures, more joy and love spilling out into other people’s lives. Life is definitely better when lived as an adventure, because that is where we see so much more of God.

– love, Ginger
